Wagner Group is one of our partners, whom we admire and trust every day and we would like for you to get acquainted with its sturdy roots - the individual behind the name.

Josef Wagner is a prominent engineer who dedicated his life to create a group of well managed companies under the control of a charity in order to set a course for the companies’ long-term successful future, which he undoubtedly achieved. He founded the Josef-Wagner Charitable Foundation in 1972 and the Swiss JOSEF-WAGNER Foundation in 1975 to take ownership of the WAGNER Group equally. By taking the interest and moral and financial protection of others at heart, he educated young people and imparted his knowledge and experience. He supported the world of science and sponsored many major projects.
His generosity and solicitude for people with bold and meaningful goals are carried over to this day, because a beautiful tree is inevitable to grow over such powerful roots. Here are the latest projects supported by Wagner Group in 2020.
The Friedrichshafen-based Josef-Wagner Charitable Foundation supported the children's charity Kinderstiftung Bodensee on Lake Constance, the Society of Friends of Children with Cancer, the TECademy in Markdorf and the 40,000 St. Elieb Boys School. On the other hand, the Josef-Wagner Charitable Foundation in Friedrichshafen supports six universities and high schools with a total of fifty sponsorships as part of the German national scholarship program ("Deutschlandstipendium"). In addition, support of € 131,000 was provided to individuals and families in need. The JOSEF WAGNER CHARITY FOUNDATION in Altstadt has played a significant role in the creation of the Bild day center in Altstadt and has now supported it for many years with an average of CHF 200,000 per year. In addition, individual grants totaling around CHF 22,000 were awarded last year.
As we evolve, we must always appreciate where we came from - it is the basis beneath our surface.

Introducing the Josef Wagner foundations

11/26/2021

Eminent engineer Josef Wagner's ambition during the reconstruction of the German economy was to establish a medium-sized surface-technology company with global reach. Since there was no family heir to take over the company, following best practice he converted his life's work into a group of companies under the control of a charitable foundation with the appropriate competent governance structure. In this way, he wanted to set a course for a long-term successful future for the WAGNER companies.
Because of the way in which the company structure had grown in the past, he established the Josef-Wagner charitable foundation in 1972 with its base in Friedrichshafen in Germany, and the Swiss JOSEF-WAGNER foundation in 1975 with its base in Altstätten, St. Gallen, Switzerland. The aim was for both charitable foundations to assume ownership of the WAGNER Group in equal measure and to ensure a uniform approach to its leadership. The charitable foundations were to perform the ownership functions equally.
Josef Wagner, who died at the age of 80 in 1987, was not just an outstanding personality as a businessperson: As a human being, he was also always a role model to his employees. He produced a lot of ideas of his own but was also open to ideas from others. He could capture the imagination, was bold, but also level-headed. He was always striving to find the best solution. He did not like half-measures. One of his rules was that he always needed at least three alternative solutions before making a final decision.
Josef Wagner was always conscious of his responsibilities as a businessperson not only towards his staff but also towards society, and he willingly embraced these responsibilities in an exemplary manner. So, it is not surprising that we find this emphasis on corporate social responsibility in the Josef-Wagner foundation's charitable purpose.
Even though Mr. and Mrs. Wagner had no children of their own, it was nonetheless important to Josef Wagner to train young people and pass on knowledge and experience to them. He maintained contact with the world of science, which he also supported. At a local level, he sponsored numerous projects that benefited society.
Major projects in 2020
Last year, the Friedrichshafen-based Josef-Wagner charitable foundation supported four major projects. These were the "Kinderstiftung Bodensee" Lake Constance children's charity, the Society of friends of children with cancer, the TECademy junior high school in Markdorf, and the St. Elisabeth junior high school for boys and girls with around 40,000 EUR.
Equally, the Josef-Wagner charitable foundation in Friedrichshafen supports six universities and high schools with a total of fifty sponsorships as part of the German national scholarship program (the "Deutschlandstipendium"). In addition, support totaling 131,000 EUR was provided to specific individuals and families in need.
